KPI briefs and the CFO diary

Twice a week Pocket-CFO writes you a plain-English briefing — what changed, what to watch, what to ask your CPA — from figures it has already calculated.

What a brief is

A KPI brief is a short, plain-English account of where your business stands, written as an entry in your CFO diary on the dashboard. Each entry covers:

  • What changed
  • Watch items
  • Recommendations
  • Questions for your CPA, your fractional CFO, and your loan officer
  • Spending and earnings insights
  • Data quality notes — anything that makes a figure less certain

How briefs are written

Pocket-CFO calculates every figure first, with its own deterministic code. Only then is an AI model asked to describe those figures — and it is given a summary of them, never your raw ledger. A brief may cite only the facts it was given; if the model cites anything else, its text is discarded and a brief written without AI is saved instead.

Briefs are informational. They are not financial, tax, or legal advice — take decisions to a qualified professional, which is exactly what the “questions for your CPA” section is for.

When briefs arrive

Briefs are written automatically every Monday and Thursday. You can also select Write today’s entry in the diary, or Refresh owner brief in the dashboard header, to write one now — once per person, per company, per week.

Your notes

Each entry has space for Owner notes. Add context the numbers can’t know — a customer that paid late, a hire that starts next month — and select Save notes. You choose whether your notes go out when you email a brief.

Sending a brief to your advisor

Select Email advisor, choose a saved contact or type an email address and name, add a message if you like, tick Include owner notes if you want them included, and select Email briefing. To send briefs automatically, see Set up delivery and alerts.

Availability

Briefs and the CFO diary are part of the CEO brief feature, which is switched on per account during the closed beta. Writing briefs counts toward your organization’s daily AI allowance of 100 requests.
